The game is played over a series of rounds with players/villains/minions taking turns according to when their initiative cards comes up. The game continues until either the players defeat the villain or the players lose. The players can lose by the villain achieving its objective or by all players being eliminated.
At the start of each turn, reveal the top card of the initiative deck and resolve its effects.
On your turn, you must take 2 actions. The possible actions are:
Enemies will attempt to make 1 attack (not 2 turns, like players) on a player fighter.
An enemy will determine a target, move to reach the target (if necessary), then makes 1 attack on its target.
These are new characters that only appear in the initiative deck.
